Fleet Management Mobile App, Developed by Unisys for U.S. General Services Administration, Wins Government-Industry Leadership Award
Unisys-developed mobile app for managing government vehicle inventory cited for usefulness and innovation
BLUE BELL, Pa., June 8, 2015 – A mobile application for fleet management developed by Unisys (NYSE: UIS) for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) was selected from a field of 40 contestants to win the American Council for Technology-Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) Advanced Mobility Working Group Leadership Award at the organization's Annual Mobile Applications Fair in Washington, D.C., on May 27.
GSA's Fleet Management System to Go (FMS2Go), showcased by the GSA fleet management team at the ACT-IAC event, allows agency fleet services representatives and contractors to use their Android devices to maintain vehicle inventories onsite at vehicle delivery locations.
The seamless, real-time approach of FMS2Go has helped GSA to make fleet management more efficient by eliminating cumbersome and time-consuming data transfer and batch processing procedures. It also improves data integrity and eliminates costs for the purchase of expensive barcode scanners, as the new app uses the built-in cameras on any Android tablet or phone. The solution also uses the Unisys ClearPath ePortal specialty engine to leverage real-time connectivity to GSA's back-end fleet management database.
FMS2Go was selected for the Leadership Award based on a number of factors, including its usefulness to GSA, its cost-cutting benefits and its innovative features.
"As federal government agencies adopt bring-your-own-device programs, they are using smartphones and tablets to make government more efficient, improve services to citizens as well as cut costs," said Casey Coleman, group vice president for civilian agencies at Unisys Federal. "We appreciate this recognition from ACT-IAC of GSA's and Unisys' innovative mobile apps capabilities."
Experts from the Unisys ClearPath Center of Excellence in Reston, Virginia, worked closely with the GSA fleet management team to successfully deliver this innovative mobile solution under the agency's Continuous Services Improvement and Innovations Program.
Unisys also leveraged global best practices from its Application Modernization Center of Excellence (AMCOE) in St. Louis to deliver innovative mobile application modernization services. AMCOE employs a team of highly-skilled experts focused on building, operating and maintaining innovative software applications for Unisys' government and commercial clients.
ACT was established in 1979 by government executives seeking a national forum where they could collaborate with their government peers on issues pertaining to the acquisition, management and use of information technologies. In 1989, ACT established IAC to provide an objective, ethical and vendor-neutral forum where government could collaborate with industry and seek industry-wide advice on key issues. Working together as partners, ACT and IAC offer programs and services designed to facilitate communication, collaboration and education.
