Unisys to Provide Cloud Services to Support Nuclear Regulatory Commission High-Performance Computing
Unisys to leverage government cloud hosting experience to help NRC securely and efficiently run high performance computing applications without extensive upfront capital investments in IT resources
RESTON, Va., October 23, 2017 – Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) announced today that it was selected for award of a task order to provide services and support to move the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) high-performance computing operations to a cloud platform.
By moving its high-performance computing operations and applications to the cloud, the NRC will be able to securely and efficiently run critical, high-end applications without extensive upfront capital investments in IT resources. The move also gives NRC access to the latest high-performance computing technology and the ability to easily scale its operations as processing requirements change.
Services were awarded as a task order against the Department of the Interior's suite of Foundation Cloud Hosting Services contracts for a period of up to six years if all options are exercised.
Work under this task order will include the implementation of the Unisys solution to move workloads to the cloud, and the subsequent operation and maintenance of the agency's high-performance computing cloud environment.
"The work performed by the NRC high-performance computing group is extremely critical to national security and safety," said Gary Wang, vice president of cloud and infrastructure services, Unisys Federal. "Unisys looks forward to bringing its extensive experience as a cloud services provider for governmental agencies to help the NRC obtain the cost savings, efficiencies and security benefits of the cloud."
Unisys has a strong track record of moving federal government agency systems and applications to the cloud. For example, the Department of the Interior worked with Unisys to become the first federal agency to move its financial management system to the cloud. Unisys also helped the U.S. General Services Administration fully transition its email and collaboration system to the cloud, another first for the federal government.
Unisys has a wide range of software-led solutions for government agencies around the world. Earlier this year, Unisys launched Digital Government Accelerators, a new family of IT services and software designed to help government agencies speed up their transitions toward providing digital services.
