Unisys Teams with Augusta Technical College to Train and Hire Augusta-Area Residents to Work in Cybersecurity Jobs
Apprenticeship program will help develop a highly-skilled and diverse cyber workforce with a focus on military workers in Georgia's Augusta River region
AUGUSTA, Ga., November 12, 2018 – Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced the company is teaming with Augusta Technical College in Augusta, Ga., and the U.S. Department of Labor to launch an apprenticeship program to train workers in the region in skills related to cybersecurity and to provide career opportunities for veterans.
The new Cybersecurity Support Technician Apprenticeship program will provide a pipeline for students to receive academic and on-the-job training as well as potential cyber-related employment with Unisys. Unisys plans to help train and hire these workers for projects in support of several U.S. state governments and to augment its cyber workforce at its growing Augusta Security Operations Center.
To kick off Veterans Day and National Apprenticeship Week, Unisys and Augusta Technical College are scheduled to provide additional details on the apprenticeship program today at an event beginning at 11:00 am ET at the Georgia Cyber Center in Augusta. Planned participants include leaders from Unisys; Terry Elam, president of Augusta Technical College; William Kraus, Georgia state director of registered apprenticeship at the U.S. Department of Labor; and representatives from the Technical College System of Georgia.
"This apprenticeship program presents a way for Unisys to develop and hire cybersecurity talent while also supporting the development and vitality of the Augusta community and assisting military personnel who are making the transition to private sector employment," said Jonathan Goldberger, vice president and general manager, Unisys Security Solutions. "With the expansion of our Augusta Security Operations Center, Unisys will bolster its commitment to the vitality of the region while offering our clients more resources to meet their evolving security needs."
"Augusta Technical College continues to be committed to its core mission to educate our communities through academic and technical education, and we are pleased to partner with Unisys to offer the Cybersecurity Support Technician apprenticeship program," said Elam. "This opportunity represents a major step in educating and developing the local workforce, and we know that this partnership fits perfectly with Unisys and Augusta Tech's commitment to excellence in technology. Augusta Tech looks forward to working with Unisys to meet the shortfall of skilled workers in the information technology, cyber and digital education fields."
