Unisys Chief Engineer Jim Thompson Honored among Philadelphia Business Journal "Top IT Pros"
Award recognizes transformative work on flagship computer architecture and advanced software
BLUE BELL, Pa., April 22, 2015 – Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced that Jim Thompson, the company's chief engineer and vice president, Engineering and Supply Chain, was recognized by Philadelphia Business Journal as one of the "Top IT Pros" for 2015.
Thompson and fellow winners were honored at a ceremony in Philadelphia on April 21.
The honor recognizes key information technology executives who have made significant contributions to their companies. According to Philadelphia Business Journal, "These key figures are often the lifeblood of companies' day-to-day operations. They've developed the innovative systems that put businesses ahead of the competition."
Thompson received the honor for his transformative work on the architecture of Unisys' computer systems. He has guided the evolution of Unisys' flagship ClearPath high-end systems from proprietary processor technology to Intel processors without sacrificing the ClearPath systems' customarily high performance for clients' mission-critical applications.
In addition, Thompson drove engineering of software-based secure partitioning (s‑Par®) and fabric computing components into the ClearPath architecture. Those features eliminate competition for resources among applications and speed up communications among applications across a software-defined network. He also guided the extension of the s-Par and fabric technologies into Forward! by Unisys™, an enterprise computing platform designed for a new generation of mission-critical applications such as data center consolidation, Unix-to-Linux migration, cloud computing and big-data analytics.
"Jim's visionary work has made a real difference for Unisys' technology business," said Quincy Allen, chief marketing and strategy officer, Unisys. "The efficiencies in system design that he has introduced have helped Unisys reduce the time, complexity and cost of developing new systems and bringing them to market. Plus, he has laid the foundation for our ClearPath and Forward! clients to benefit from emerging IT trends that will have profound implications for their business in the coming years."
