State of Kansas Selects Unisys to Transform IT Infrastructure with a Cloud-Based, Digital Government Platform

Unique consumption-based service model provides flexbility and positions Kansas as a best practices leader

BLUE BELL, Pa. and TOPEKA, Kan., September 26, 2018Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) announced today that it was selected as the winning bidder of an open request for proposals by the State of Kansas – a new client for Unisys – to provide a hybrid cloud solution designed to help the state establish a secure and modern IT infrastructure for the state's executive branch.

The primary goal of the contract is to upgrade to a modern, secure environment while providing a lower overall operating cost for IT. The contract also will give the state access to a larger pool of highly-trained Unisys support and operations resources to complement the state's existing IT staff. Valued at approximately $40 million, the contract spans 62 months, followed by two one-year option periods.

Through the contract, the state will transfer ownership of its aging IT hardware to Unisys. Unisys will then replace that infrastructure with modern technology and access to the industry's leading cloud service providers, including Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, while giving workers the most efficient and secure digital government tools available.

"The State of Kansas is focused on the security of citizen information, operational efficiency and the flexibility to accommodate the unique needs of our agencies as well as the ever-changing demands of modern technology," said Lee Allen, executive branch chief information technology officer for the State of Kansas. "We look forward to seeing how Unisys will guide the state through this transition process and into a new operational reality."

Unisys will be responsible for the compute and data storage environment as well as operational support, including deployment, technology refresh, patching, troubleshooting and asset management. The state will retain responsibility for application development.

In addition, Unisys will offer a full range of related services, including data center and network security, compliance and audit support, server management and disaster recovery.

"This contract is designed to create efficiencies and reduce operating risk, while providing the digital environment needed for today's citizens and state workers," said Michael Morrison, vice president and general manager for Unisys in the United States and Canada. "Working with Unisys, the state will be able to deploy more modern and secure tools using a cost-effective shared-services delivery model. The contract squarely positions the State of Kansas as a best practices leader, using digital government services as a way to serve citizens more efficiently."

The contract, awarded to Unisys in the fourth quarter of 2017, is also available for use by all state agencies as well as non-state or quasi-government organizations such as universities and county or municipal agencies. It utilizes consumption-based pricing based on usage so that agencies pay only for the services they consume.

Forward Looking Statements

Any statements contained in this release that are not historical facts are forward-looking statements as defined in the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. All forward-looking statements rely on assumptions and are subject to risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from expectations. In particular, statements in this release about the total value of the contract are based on the assumption that the government will exercise all option years, which is at the government's discretion, and that the base period and each option year will continue for its full term. In a consumption-based pricing contract, such as this one, the awarded value is an estimate of the charges that would be invoiced to the government by the contractor based on the government's stated requirements and the negotiated prices for services consumed by the government. Statements in this release about the total value of the contract assume that the government will consume services based on its stated requirements. Further because agreements with government agencies are terminable before the end of their terms and are subject to the availability of appropriated funds, there is no guarantee that the contract will continue for its full term. Additional discussion of factors that could affect Unisys future results is contained in periodic filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
