What is Horizon Cloud- next-gen? 

VMware Horizon is a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution that allows organizations to deliver and manage virtualized desktop environments and applications to end users on various devices such as laptops, desktops, tablets and smartphones. It enables employees to access their work desktops from any device, anywhere, as if they were sitting in front of their physical work computer. 

VMware Horizon Cloud provides global administration of all your desktops and applications that are hosted on different on-premises and cloud environments. VMware hosts the Horizon Cloud Control Plane, which runs the central management of remote desktops and applications in your environment (e.g., Microsoft Azure). 

This new architecture completely moves the environment management to the Horizon Control Plane. This means many components, such as connection servers, gateways, application volumes and databases, are removed from the user environment and switched to the Control Plane. There is also a new management component called Horizon Edge Gateway, which is responsible for communication between the VDI and the Control Plane, deployment of Unified Access Gateway (UAG) and single sign-on (SSO) functionalities. 

This modern approach reduces many local data center requirements and associated costs. Additionally, upgrading the Horizon infrastructure becomes a much simpler process.
