The attack surface of organizations around the globe is increasing. New devices, both managed and unmanaged access critical data and services. This, coupled with the growing level of adversary sophistication and understanding of available exploitation techniques demand a review of traditional security strategies. The current approach to network security, built upon strong perimeter defenses and a well-understood concept of resource and infrastructure allocation are failing to keep pace and are in danger of complete collapse. Today's security and information sharing reality is different and constantly evolving - thus requiring a change in the very way we think about security and the supporting business process models. We now need to consider micro-segmentation (μSeg), software-defined networking (SDN), advanced encryption methodologies implementing, embracing, and enforcing an earned trust or zero trust model.
This paper illustrates how organizations can embrace software-defined security to implement intelligent network segmentation and improve their security posture.
