Unisys Federal Cloud Email Success Stories
Unisys cloud contracts include email and collaboration transitions for the General Services Administration (GSA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Department of Energy Idaho National Laboratory (DOE), and Department of Health and Human Resources (HHS) and National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
Unisys migrated GSA from the legacy Lotus Notes and Domino software to the Google Apps for Government Software as a Service (SaaS). The migration solution is estimated to save GSA about $15 million over 5 years. Unisys led the pilot and migration of full mailbox capabilities, including instant messaging, contact management, and shared calendar capabilities. BlackBerry, IOS, and Android technologies are also supported. Unisys completed the migration in June 2011, and will continue to provide support through 2015. Unisys now provides O&M to 17,000 GSA employees and contractors (expandable to 30,000) with the Google Apps for Government cloud messaging and collaboration suite.
Under the NOAA Small Business contract vehicle, Unisys teamed with Earth Resources Technologies (ERT) to provide cloud email. In December 2011, the ERT, Unisys, Google, and Tempus Nova team transitioned 25,000 NOAA users to Google Apps for Government, the largest transition to Google’s cloud services by a Federal agency to date. Unisys provided engineering and migration support, helping to modernize email and calendar infrastructure, integrate collaborative tools, and synchronize messaging technology with mobile devices to better support NOAA’s mission and workforce.
In 2012, Unisys completed the transition of 5,000 employees at the Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory to the cloud-based Google Apps. The new tools improve collaboration among employees through better sharing of information technology infrastructure, resources and applications. The solution gives employees secure access to email and data while reducing costs, allowing personnel to perform vital work more efficiently with improved system uptime and availability.
In late 2012, NARA awarded Unisys with a contract to oversee the transition of the agency's 4,500 users to the cloud-based Google Apps for email and collaboration. The new cloud-based solution will help the agency perform its record management duties of safeguarding and preserving government records while giving employees secure and efficient access to email and data as well as cut operational costs and improve the system's uptime and availability.
