Unisys Security Index
Unisys Security Index
The Unisys Security Index
is a biannual global study that provides statistically robust insights into the attitudes of
consumers on a wide range of security related issues, including:
- National security including concerns related to terrorism and health epidemics.
- Financial security regarding financial fraud and ability to meet personal financial obligations.
- Internet security related to spam, virus, and online financial transactions.
- Personal security concerning physical safety and identity theft.
The current wave of research also gauges the level of concern consumers and citizens feel
regarding:
- The ability of their financial service providers and governments to keep their personal information secure;
- Providing a secure biometric to confirm their identity, as well as their preferred biometrics;
- The increasing use of ‘clouds’ for personal applications and information storage.
Unisys Security Index Survey Methodology
The Unisys Security Index
is based upon native-language telephone surveys of 8,300 persons aged 18 and up, across nine
countries in August and September 2009.
- Lieberman Research Group conducted the research in Belgium, Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States; Newspoll conducted the research in Australia and New Zealand.
- All findings are statistically significant at a 95% level of confidence.
- National respondents are randomly selected from households in the nine countries and accord with robust statistical sampling methods.
- The sample is weighted with respect to demographic characteristics such as gender, age, region, town size, education, and occupation. Weighting is applied at the national (rather than global) level.
- Global security indices are unweighted averages of the nine countries’ security indices.
The Unisys Security Index
The Unisys Security Index provides a recurring, statistical measure of consumer concern about four areas of security: national, financial, Internet, and personal safety. The Unisys Security Index tracks trends in consumer perception of pressing security issues as they relate to current events and market forces in various regions, measuring consumer concern towards eight specific issues against these four categories and providing an overall assessment of concern among approximately 8,300 people in nine countries.
The study measures consumer perceptions on a scale of zero to 300, with 300 representing the highest level of perceived anxiety. In addition to the U.S., the Unisys Security Index includes consumers’ opinions from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
