Strategic Innovation Program

Strategic Innovation Program

While many of our competitors provide informal, disconnected innovation tools and approaches across their organizations, the Unisys Strategic Innovation Program provides a systematic, cohesive, globally–coordinated program. We deliver innovative ideas, solutions, and outcomes for our clients, leveraging a highly–structured, yet flexible approach.

Our program has three main goals: to provide a unique “continuous innovation” approach with our clients and partners, to support and sustain innovation at Unisys, and to expand our global sources of innovation and accelerate their adoption into Unisys products and services.

Internally, the Unisys Strategic Innovation program supports our growth and productivity strategy by enabling us to create a high–yield innovation pipeline for future solution offerings, and allowing us to better leverage Unisys intellectual property for efficiency.

The program has five divisions:

How We Support Innovation

Our program is composed of five elements that provide key benefits to Unisys and to our clients. These elements were established to help us harness the creative energy and technical knowledge of our employees, clients, and partners. Each component of our program helps us develop and cultivate new areas of innovation.

  • Unisys Innovation Community — A Unisys initiative to incorporate innovation into our DNA and support coordination and collaboration internally and externally. The Unisys Innovation Community includes our Global Thought Leadership Network and our Innovation Scout & Broker Network, which plays a key role in helping us to identify and incubate emerging trends and technologies.
  • Innovation Management — Includes our Strategic Innovation Framework process methodology for innovation and our Innovation Dashboard capabilities, which relate to how we manage and measure innovation activities across the company.
  • Innovation Infrastructure — Includes Innovation Portal and Innovation Database. The Innovation Database supports our Innovation Framework methodology and captures the existing assets and emerging technologies that form the foundation for our continued differentiation in the marketplace.
  • Client Innovation Offerings — Provides a “continuous innovation” approach with our clients throughout the engagement lifecycle. We also offer Innovation Workshops that provide clients with a fast–track approach to identify, categorize, and prioritize innovation opportunities within their business, and to develop high–level business cases and implementation roadmaps for the most promising opportunities identified.
  • Open Innovation Community — A program that provides the “Open Innovation” aspect of our Strategic Innovation Program. It includes our Strategic Alliance Partner R&D Program, our Innovation Research, and our participation in various Innovation Management Consortia including Professor Henry Chesbrough’s Berkeley Innovation Forum (BIF), and the Research & Technology Executive Council (RTEC), which is part of the Corporate Executive Board.

These five elements set Unisys apart from our competitors because they allow us to offer our clients comprehensive and continuous innovation across all four pillars of critical innovation capability: Strategy and Intent; Practices and Processes; Values, Culture, and People; and Support, Organization, and Infrastructure.

Our Expertise

Innovation is nothing new to Unisys. The following aspects clearly differentiate us as a time– and field–proven innovator:

  • History of Innovation — One of creative, tenacious people helping businesses and governments apply information technology to achieve new levels of competitiveness and success.
  • Industry Firsts — Including the world’s first digital computer, world’s first commercial computer, core memory, virtual memory, multi–processing, multi–programming, and virtual systems architecture, and an extensive IP portfolio.
  • Experience in Business Transformation — In 1994, services and solutions became the company’s single largest business.
  • 3D Blueprinting — A new way of seeing the inner workings of an organization that makes predicting the outcome of change more a matter of analysis than of guesswork.
  • Leader in IT Innovation — Our strategic programs are focused on the IT infrastructure and integration layers which are the core drivers of IT innovation in the industry today.
  • Strategic Alliances — Our strategic alliances enable us to see innovations coming from the R&D labs of the world’s leading IT providers, and to work with them to create the next generation of solution offerings for our customers.
