Cut with Care: Don’t Harvest the Future
Despite tentative indications the economy is improving, many organizations remain under pressure to reduce costs. The IT function is often a main target, so the challenge for CIOs is to meet savings goals while not slashing spending so much the organization loses its ability to respond to new market opportunities or government policies. Unisys calls such cutting for short-term gain ‘harvesting the future’. This paper discusses how CIOs can avoid harvesting the future by managing IT services and outsourcing cost reductions in a strategic manner.
