P&O Ferrymasters continues to evolve its infrastructure to meet real-time business demands
Steve Walters, the IT director at P&O Ferrymasters, is a careful guy. Walters was raised in a mainframe environment and holds his Microsoft Windows & Linux based infrastructure to the same high standards of performance and availability. "I insist on consistency and control," says Walters. "In 2006, P&O Ferrymasters and its partner network managed 575,000 loads for our customers. When you consider that nearly 800 users rely on my IT system daily for logistics, you can understand why my standards are so rigorous."
But as an increase in business flowed through this highly reputable multimodal freight management company, Walters turned to Unisys, which had been providing on–going services and support to P&O Ferrymasters for 10 years, to help evolve its infrastructure to meet real–time business demands and improve cost efficiency.
Unisys helped P&O Ferrymasters evolve its servers and software toward a Real–Time Infrastructure through consolidation and virtualization, to meet growing business demands. Two virtualized ES7000/one Enterprise Servers with Real–Time Capacity (RTC) offer flexibility and cost–controlled availability while enabling improved service delivery. The result was IT that delivered more efficiency and value to the business.
