Unisys In the Community

Investing in Our Communities

As a company that strives to be a good corporate citizen, Unisys invests in the communities where it does business and where its employees and their families live. These investments take the form of leadership, expertise and contributions in the areas of Technology and Business Education, Health and Human Services, and Global Diversity.

Technology and Business Education

The Unisys contributions program is focused on university-level technology and business education programs at a set of schools that align with the current business priorities. The goal is for Unisys to play a role in the cultivation of tomorrow’s workforce and to encourage innovative ideas in these areas that will, ultimately, impact the business world. Unisys people use their skills and expertise on campuses as well, sometimes serving as mentors or providing project work for current students.

Science and Technology in the Community

The company has long supported science and technology education in the community. We are proud of our long history of support for The Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philadelphia, Pa. Unisys was the founding sponsor of the Franklin Institute’s award-winning Web site, which is one of the most frequently visited science museum Web sites in the world. The site includes Resources for Science Learning, a key source for online science content and tools for learners and educators alike. Our past contributions have supported the online presentation of The Franklin Institute’s Case Files, which document and highlight the outstanding achievements of laureates in science and technology since 1824, including William S. Burroughs, Elmer Sperry, and J.Presper Eckert and John W. Mauchly.

Preserving Technology History

The Charles Babbage Institute at the University of Minnesota and The Hagley Museum and Library in Delaware house and preserve our company’s records collection–a chronicle of the early years of the computer industry–and make them available to the public for research purposes.

Health and Human Services

Unisys has a long history of support for United Way agencies in communities where employees live and work. Support comes through employee contributions during annual workplace fund-raising campaigns, partnering with member agencies on volunteer projects, and through grants made to local agencies.

The company also supports Red Cross blood drives in the community.

Global Diversity

Employee-led diversity councils are at work in North America. Council members have identified priorities relevant to the local cultures and, in doing so, pave the way for an inclusive environment that harnesses the potential of all of our employees.

In the marketplace, Unisys is committed to providing opportunities for minority and women-owned businesses in the U.S. to participate as partners and suppliers of goods and services as part of our corporate supply base.

To further underscore our commitment to diversity, Unisys supports Catalyst®, the leading research and advisory organization working with businesses and the professions to build inclusive environments and expand opportunities for women at work.

Every April, Unisys and its U.S. employees support Take Our Daughters And Sons to Work® to help youngsters explore career options and learn about the business world. The program also helps young people recognize and break down stereotypes about women’s and men’s roles in the workplace. Typical Unisys activities involve using technology in the workplace, business etiquette, interviewing techniques, and more.
