LogisticsThe Value of CommunityThe Unisys logistics community includes thousands of forwarders, hundreds of airline staff and about 20 of the world's major carriers who process over 35% of the world's air cargo.
The air logistics business depends on sharing information between shippers, forwarders, carriers and regulatory authorities. And it depends on cooperation between competitors as each needs to reduce the costs of work in common, while simultaneously focusing on differentiating themselves. Besides providing leading technology services and solutions, Unisys devotes much of its time to increasing value for clients and to driving industry progress by working closely with the community of existing and future clients.
Service DevelopmentsOur Cargo Portal Services portal reaches the staff of many airlines and their partners, as well as thousands of freight forwarders in over 30 countries. The subscribing carriers meet monthly to discuss developments and, whenever major new functions are planned, with a representative group of freight forwarders.
Our Logistics Management System solution is used by hundreds of airline staff who process over 35% of the world's air cargo. As most air carriers have similar needs, they meet twice a year as the Unisys Cargo Users Group (UCUG) to share insights. UCUG provides direction to Unisys for future developments and it allocates resources of a community fund called AIRCARE for maintenance and enhancements to applications. UCUG is also a forum for clients share ideas, learn from and to influence related industry organizations.
Many air carriers have Unisys host their cargo system rather than running equipment in-house. Known as the Hosting and Integration Services group, these air carriers also meet regularly with Unisys to discuss their specific needs. Users of the Unisys In-transit Service Manager exception management and Cargo 2000 solutions do the same.
Industry DevelopmentsFinally, Unisys regularly hosts conferences to discuss industry trends, bringing together clients and prospective clients.
These fall into two categories. The first covers specific functional areas such as logistics and is usually held at the Unisys International Management Centre in Nice, France. The other is our cross-airline annual conference, which brings together all the key aspects of airline operations and is held on a different continent each year.
