Unisys Re-developing Widely-Used Airline Cargo Management SystemInnovative new services will enable air carriers and transport providers to improve management of global shipments
BLUE BELL, Pa., February 12, 2007 – Unisys (NYSE: UIS) announces that it is developing a next-generation version of its Logistics Management System (LMS), which today is used by many major air carriers to process approximately 25 percent of the world’s air freight. The enhancements will include innovative new services as well as migration of LMS to a new high performance J2EE technology platform that will run on a choice of modern systems. This work signifies the final and most significant step in LMS’ ongoing re-development program. Currently, all clients for whom Unisys hosts LMS and several other clients who run it in house have already adopted the use of a Web browser as their sole interface to the system.
The new system will build upon all the functions in LMS today and will include new features required or foreseen by the industry, current, and prospective clients. As part of the development process, Unisys plans to release new modules or services between late 2007 and mid 2009, when the work is expected to be completed. During the development phase, these new modules are expected to include cargo revenue accounting, piece-level tracking, and dynamic pricing integrated with routing availability among others. Together with the market-leading functionality in LMS today, these enhancements will further secure business operations for cargo operators.
“Unisys is fully committed to helping the airline industry’s core businesses to be as efficient and innovative as possible,” said Olivier Houri, president, Global Transportation, Unisys. “As we have seen with the success of the Unisys AirCore next-generation passenger solution suite, we are confident that the industry is now ready for a next-generation cargo system that will help to transform the way that air cargo carriers do business with their customers.”
Use of the existing LMS browser user interface will offer existing Unisys clients an easy migration path to the new platform.
“While our current system delivers outstanding availability, performance and value, we are committed to continual enhancement in line with our fast-changing industry,” said Christopher Shawdon, vice president and partner, Logistics Services, Unisys. “We expect the new system to offer operational efficiencies and enable faster speed of change. We will be developing it in collaboration with our client community and will also leverage Unisys expertise in technology and secure business operations.”
As with the current version of LMS, Unisys will offer the new system on a hosted basis through its Hosting and Integration Services. LMS is part of the comprehensive Unisys Logistics Solutions portfolio which includes the Cargo 2000-accredited In-transit Service Manager and Cargo Portal Services, the world’s most widely used multi-carrier air cargo booking and shipment management portal.
