Unisys Becomes First Systems Integrator to Join Newly-Formed Open Solutions AllianceCompany to focus on bringing ease of integration and interoperability to open source applications
BLUE BELL, Pa., February 15, 2007 – Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced that it has become the first systems integrator to join the newly formed Open Solutions Alliance (OSA). The OSA is a non-profit, vendor-neutral consortium dedicated to driving adoption of comprehensive open source business solutions. Unisys goal, within the OSA, is to bring application and systems integration expertise not only to the community and the alliance’s existing partners, but to all enterprises looking to leverage the advantages of open source software.
As the demand for affordable open source business solutions continues to grow, Unisys is uniquely positioned to help enterprises leverage the power of open source to improve interoperability and ease-of-integration in their IT operations.
“Unisys has a lot of experience building the market for business-hardened open source solution suites,” said Barry Klawans, OSA spokesperson and chief technology officer at JasperSoft, a market leader in open source business intelligence. “Unisys is an ideal company to be a part of the OSA and shares our common belief in the adoption of open source business solutions.”
“Unisys is very excited to be a part of the OSA, and we feel very strongly that our expertise in all facets of mission-critical vertical solutions, utilizing open source and open standards, will bring great value to the Alliance,” said Anthony Gold, vice president and general manager, Open Source Business, Unisys. “As companies look to migrate toward and modernize with open environments, they will require open source applications to adhere to certain interoperability standards. Unisys has a lot of experience as a leading product developer and systems integrator, from the operating system to the application stack, and everything in-between.”
As enterprises continue to look at open source software as a viable solution in mission-critical data center environments, both application migration and modernization become extremely important. Through its Open and Secure Integrated Solutions (OASIS), Unisys provides an industry-leading portfolio of integrated, certified open source software suites that enable clients to modernize their IT environments by bringing the economic advantages of open source into the enterprise.
“We can expect great things in the future from the open source community in the advancement of open source applications,” said Ali Shadman, vice president and general manager, Open Source Solutions, Systems and Technology, Unisys. “One challenge this creates for the industry and for individual businesses is how these various applications will mesh and play together. Through integration and interoperability, Unisys is helping organizations make an accurate assessment of their existing IT environments and how to apply open standards, to benefit their bottom-line.”
