Biography

Terry Hartmann is the Identity and Credentialing Global Practice Lead, and a Vice President, for Unisys Corporation.

 

Terry has overall responsibility for developing and implementing the Unisys homeland security strategy. Particular emphasis is placed on people identity management, including passports, visas, ID cards, driver licenses, employee identification, and other identity centric solutions. Terry’s team directs and coordinates Unisys ID strategy, presales, and solutions worldwide.

 

Mr. Hartmann has built a vibrant enterprise security practice in Asia Pacific over the last four years, leading to recognition of Unisys as the solutions leader in the identity field.  He was appointed to a broader role at Unisys in September 2007 to manage the company’s global identity portfolio. In June 2008, Terry was promoted to Vice President. 

 

Prior to joining Unisys, Mr. Hartmann was responsible for leading-edge research and development, strategic planning, and implementation of business process transformation as IT Manager for the Australian Passport Office.  He played a key role in establishing the Australian public sector as a world leader in biometrics technologies.

 

Terry has over 25 years experience in the IT industry. He is an internationally-recognized authority on all aspects of homeland security and positive-identification technology, including the briefing of foreign governments and the media. He regularly speaks on identity matters at international conferences and is a globally-recognized leader in the biometrics industry.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science Honours level degree specializing in Computer Science and Pure Mathematics from the Australian National University, in Canberra.

Memberships

Mr. Hartmann continues to play a major role in the development of biometrics standards for positive-identification. He is a technical expert to the International Standards Organization (ISO) on biometrics specializing in facial recognition, and also serves a Director of the Australian Biometrics Institute.  He has also been extensively involved with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which establishes world standards for travel documents.  He served as Chairman of the ICAO ePassports Task Force, and, in that context, coined the term “ePassport” to describe “contactless integrated circuit biometric passports.”  Terry wrote the Biometrics Deployment Technical Report, endorsed by the ICAO in May 2004 and subsequently incorporated into the ICAO Document 9303 travel document standards.
