Secure Systems Encryption

Encryption provides data privacy in the exchanges of data between two computers, ensuring that only the intended recipient can decrypt and use the data.

You can also use encryption to provide data privacy in computer storage, including the ClearPath OS 2200 relational and network databases. Cipher API supports both functions.

Cipher API

ClearPath OS 2200 Cipher API provides an easy-to-use interface that gives you system-level access to these cryptographic algorithms that are Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliant:

• Data Encryption Standard (DES)
• Triple DES (3DES)
• Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)

OS 2200 software versions of AES and 3DES are certified by NIST (The National Institute of Standards and Technology ). Also included is the MD5 algorithm for digital signature creation and verification.

Web Transaction Server Encryption

Web Transaction Server for ClearPath OS 2200 software supports Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption, an industry-standard protocol for transmitting private data across a network. SSL helps to protect data sent between the Web-enabled applications running on your ClearPath system and end users’ Web browsers. The Web Transaction Server has also been verified to work with digital certificates.

Communication Software and SSL

Another SSL solution is OS 2200 CPComm. This communication software gives you two ways to impose security on data sent and received by an application using the SSL protocol.

In the first method, no changes to the application are required because CPComm intercepts the network communication requests and encrypts the data using SSL. This method is easy for implementation in an application, but if the application needs maximum control, another method is available. In the second method, the application is modified to directly access the security mechanism supplied by CPComm
