ClearPath OS 2200
ClearPath Dorado Series, Features
ClearPath Dorado Servers are rich in valuable features that provide indispensable functionality for driving your business forward. Here are some of the major features that contribute to the tremendous IT agility of ClearPath mainframes. - Optimized for high-volume, business-critical transaction processing
The entire OS 2200 platform, including hardware, software, middleware, and systems management product suites, are all optimized for facilitating secure, ultra-high-volume, business-critical processing. - Modular flexibility
The modular structure of Dorado Servers delivers the agility needed for evolving to a Real-Time Infrastructure, including the choice of hardware technologies, operating environments, applications, growth options, integration software, and buying models. You can add and remove modules at will. - Pay-for-Use business models
ClearPath Dorado Metered Servers offer two different Pay-for-Use business models. Both give you all the processing power you need, when you need it. Without having to pay for any resources beyond what you actually use. Our Base-plus-Usage and Pre-paid Performance business models can significantly lower your upfront investment, let you link revenue with IT expenses and align your accounting methodologies with your business strategy. - Industry-leading metering technology
Unisys offers entry-level, mid-range, and high-end Dorado Series Servers with our unique metering technology. The measurement, management, and reporting controls enable you to deploy metering with the highest degree of precision. And the extra resources that are “always on” can dramatically improve your operations. ClearPath Servers are the most granular metered servers on the market today. Instead of turning on and off whole processors, you can control even small portions of a single processor. No other solution gives you this level of control over your operating environment – and financial exposure. - A secure and complete Java environment
Unisys delivers a comprehensive Java EE environment for OS 2200 that includes a Java Virtual Machine (JVM), the open source JBoss Application Server, and industry-standard Java EE development environments. We also offer a full set of Java connectors that allow your Windows, UNIX, and Linux–based Java applications to access existing, non-Java OS 2200 applications and data. What’s more, the OS 2200 operating system and ClearPath architecture provide the most secure mainframe environment on the planet for your business-critical, Java-based applications. You really can have it all, read more about Secure Java solutions. - Instant access to data resources
Business Information Server (BIS) is the ideal toolset for instantly accessing, analyzing, and reporting information available on an OS 2200 system. Data is transposed into information using the built-in ad hoc capability. For often repeated queries, a powerful scripting language can be employed. Data from OS 2200 sources including Business Information Server (BIS), Relational Database Server (formerly RDMS), Network Database Server (formerly DMS), as well as data from sources external to the OS 2200 environment can be combined. BIS becomes an invaluable tool in making informed business decisions. - Rapid application development
Application development for OS 2200 can be done using today’s industry-standard skills and tools. Unisys provides an entire suite of application development tools for business-critical deployment and for the rapid implementation of new business solutions. These tools include Java, Unisys Agile Business Suite, COBOL, and industry-standard middleware. These flexible, low-cost development environments enable you to better match your expenses to revenues. - 100 percent code and data compatibility
ClearPath OS 2200 clients enjoy 100 percent code and data compatibility. This gives you the agility to deploy the Dorado model that best fits your needs. And, it gives you tremendous scalability without expensive code and data migration. - Diverse computing workloads
What sets the ClearPath OS 2200 operating system apart from the Windows, UNIX, and Linux environments? The ability to run hundreds of mission critical applications under one instance of the operating system. Additionally you can process diverse computing workloads by running multiple independent operating environments concurrently and by implementing multiple hardware technologies and operating systems all on a single ClearPath system. - Integrated, external, heterogeneous environments
Our powerful industry-standard middleware solutions for application, Internet, message, and data integration let you integrate your ClearPath OS 2200 applications and data with external heterogeneous servers, databases, and applications using virtually any of the industry’s most popular technologies. - Secure, dedicated Java processors
The Dorado 100, 200, and 300 Series Servers offer optional dedicated OS 2200 CMOS-based Java processors that run under same instance of the OS 2200 operating system as non-Java processors. These Dorado Servers deliver unmatched security and availability, making them ideal platforms for Java applications. This new capability – plus the JBoss Application Server – enable you to add new Java applications to your IT infrastructure with minimal impact on your existing workloads or to extend your COBOL application with new Java-based modules. - Performance Redistribution
This standard feature on Dorado Servers lets you dynamically distribute your licensed performance (MIPS/RPMs) across processors and partitions – without any interruptions. What’s more, the Dorado Servers provide Performance Redistribution wherein a single performance key lets you distribute processing performance across multiple partitions at any time. With this design there are no predefined configurations. You can split the performance among partitions with one percent granularity. You can also easily distribute your licensed performance over any or all processors within a partition. - Self-adjusting performance
In the unlikely event of a processor failure, the system automatically adjusts the remaining processors to deliver the licensed performance. Performance continuity is maintained in a dual-module environment wherein you can use the maximum contracted system performance in one module when the other module is unavailable for processing. - Extensive system access
End-users can access OS 2200 applications via the Web and their PDA, mobile, and wireless devices. - Extensive software portfolio
ClearPath OS 2200-based systems offer a comprehensive array of software solutions with true mainframe attributes. - Scale up and out
ClearPath OS 2200-based systems offer major horizontal and vertical scalability. - Dynamic partitioning
ClearPath OS 2200-based systems feature a dynamic partitioning capability that lets you reconfigure physical components in real time. This provides unprecedented physical agility in the areas of workload balancing, planned downtime, and software upgrades.
