Open Data Access XML Provider

The XML Provider enables ClearPath data sources to interoperate with other XML-enabled applications and data sources locally or anywhere on the Web.

XML serves as the universal language for Web applications, which typically draw on diverse resources running on a wide variety of platforms in an Internet setting. In such a diverse yet collaborative environment, the data portability offered by XML is critical. Providing ClearPath MCP and OS 2200 Servers with the ability to produce and process data in this form makes the database a viable component of Web applications.

The XML Provider works with the appropriate OLE DB Data Provider and the JDBC Driver for OLE DB to:

  • Render data in a browser. The data can be sent to the requesting browser in XML format, or the extracted XML can be converted to HTML format.
  • Export data in XML format. The XML document can be returned to a browser, sent to and processed by an application, or forwarded to another data source.
  • Import data contained in an XML document to a database. External data can be sent to the Enterprise Database Server and stored in existing datasets.
  • Provide data exchanges with other data sources. XML is widely used to import and export data in other databases and applications having proprietary data formats, making it useful for exchanging data among otherwise incompatible systems.
  • Facilitate integration of ClearPath data with other XML data. Data extracted from an MCP or OS 2200 data source can be appended to XML data of similar structures and sent to a browser or other destinations.

The XML Provider is included in the Integrated Operating Environment.
