Open Data Access Relational JDBC Driver for ClearPath OS 2200The Relational JDBC Driver for ClearPath OS 2200 provides JDBC access to Relational Database Server (formerly RDMS) databases. Its performance is specifically optimized for use with Relational Database Server databases by Java applications, run either in the OS 2200 environment or on other platforms. The RDMS JDBC product also provides a JCA compliant Resource Adapter that can participate in Java EE global transactions.
The Relational JDBC Driver enables Java applications running on any server to access Relational Database Server data. This technology allows ClearPath clients to quickly implement new capabilities in a cost effective manner through the reuse of existing ClearPath database assets. This also means that ClearPath assets can participate in Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) based solutions.
The Relational JDBC Driver consists of two components – a client and a server.
The client runs on the platform of the Java calling program. It consists of the Java class files for JDBC. The client is written in pure Java and uses Java Networking to communicate with the server portion of the JDBC driver.
The server runs on the ClearPath OS 2200 platform containing the Relational Database Server database. The server code does not contain Java; it is not necessary to have a Java Virtual Machine running on the ClearPath platform.
When both the client and server are running on the same ClearPath OS 2200 platform, the Relational JDBC Driver client component can utilize a Relational JDBC Driver service library to directly access the Relational Database Server for additional performance.
The Relational JDBC Driver for ClearPath OS 2200 is packaged with the Relational Database Server (formerly RDMS) product.
