Both give you all the processing power you need, when you need it. Without having to pay for any resources beyond what you actually use. Our Base-plus-Usage and Pre-paid Performance business models can significantly lower your upfront investment, let you link revenue with IT expenses and align your accounting methodologies with your business strategy.Industry-leading metering technologyUnisys offers both mid-range and high-end ClearPath Libra 690 Series Servers with our unique metering technology. The measurement, management and reporting controls enable you to deploy metering with the highest degree of precision. And the extra resources that are “always on” can dramatically improve your operations. ClearPath servers are the most granular metered systems on the market today. Instead of turning on and off whole processors, you can control even small portions of a single processor! No other solution gives you this level of control over your operating environment – and your financial exposure.A secure and complete Java environmentUnisys delivers a comprehensive Java EE environment for MCP that includes a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and the open source JBoss Application Server, dedicated Intel-based MCP Java processors, and industry standard Java EE development environments. We also offer a full set of Java connectors that allow your Windows,UNIX, and Linux-based Java applications to access existing, non-Java MCP applications and data. What's more, the MCP operating system and ClearPasth architecture provide the most secure mainframe environment on the planet for your business-critical Java-based applications. You really can have it all, read more about Secure Java solutions.Rapid application developmentApplication development for MCP-based systems can be done using today’s industry-standard skills and tools. Unisys provides an entire suite of application development tools for business-critical deployment and for the rapid implementation of new business solutions. These tools include Java, Unisys Agile Business Suite, COBOL, and industry-standard middleware. These flexible, low-cost development environments enable you to better match your expenses to revenues.Diverse computing workloadsWhat sets the MCP operating system apart from the Windows, UNIX and Linux-environments is its ability to run hundreds of mission-critical applications under one instance of the Operating System. Additionally, you can process diverse computing workloads by running multiple independent operating environments concurrently and by implementing multiple hardware technologies and operating systems – all on a single ClearPath system.Run six different operating systems simultaneouslyClearPath MCP-based systems can simultaneously run as many as six different operating systems in 32 partitions: Unisys ClearPath MCP AND Unisys Virtual Machine for ClearPath MCP (MCPvm) Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003, Enterprise Edition Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003, Datacenter Edition Novell® SUSE® Linux Enterprise Server Red Hat® Enterprise Linux
Multiple processor technologiesClearPath MCP-based systems support up to 32 independent partitions concurrently running a choice of Unisys designed MCP CMOS processors and Intel processors.Integrated, external, heterogeneous environmentsOur powerful industry-standard middleware solutions for application, Internet, message and data integration let you integrate your ClearPath MCP applications and data with external heterogeneous servers, databases and applications using virtually any of the industry’s most popular technologies. Capacity on Demand optionsFor ClearPath Libra non-metered system clients, the following Capacity on Demand options are available. Temporary Capacity lets you scale your processing capacity up and down. Disaster Recovery lets you enable reserve capacity in case of disaster – immediately on an alternate platform. Emergency Recovery lets you enable reserve capacity in case of minor emergencies – immediately on an alternate platform. COD is offered with very fine granularity. Unlike competitive systems that allow clients to turn on and off only whole processors, ClearPath MCP-based systems let you turn on and off small portions of processors, providing better cost controls and greater agility.Plug-and-play, mix-and-match modulesLibra Model 600 and 400 Series Servers have a modular, “plug-and-play” architecture that gives you unprecedented overall platform flexibility. You can mix and match many different business models in a single server complex – and enjoy extraordinary financial versatility to respond to your changing business needs. You can leverage the two Pay-for-Use business models, the traditional buy-for-peak model, Capacity on Demand (COD) options, disaster recovery (DR) options and the value pricing of production, development and Agile Business Suite workloads – all within a single server.Performance RedistributionThis standard feature on Libra Model 680 and Libra Model 400 Servers let you dynamically distribute your licensed performance (MIPS/RPMs) across processors and partitions – without any interruptions. What’s more, the Libra Model 680 servers provide Performance Redistribution wherein a single performance key lets you distribute processing performance across multiple partitions at any time. With this design there are no predefined configurations; you can split the performance among partitions with one percent granularity. You can also easily distribute your licensed performance over any or all processors within a partition.Self-adjusting performanceIn the unlikely event of a processor failure, the system automatically adjusts the remaining processors to deliver the licensed performance. Performance continuity is maintained in a dual-module environment wherein you can use the maximum contracted system performance in one module when the other module is unavailable for processing.Custom Processor setThe Libra Model 600 Series Servers let you assign processors within a partition into two processor sets: the standard processor set and a Custom Processor Set. This enables you to maximize your application performance by minimizing potential processor contention issues. You can split system performance between the standard and the Custom Processor set, which lets you have processors running at different speeds within the same partition. This allows your performance-critical application to run as quickly as possible alongside other, less-performance-critical applications within the same partition – while eliminating processor contention among the applications.Reserve resources when you need themThe Libra Model 600 Series Servers include a Policy-based Resource Management infrastructure containing reserve processors, IO, networking and memory capacity. One of the most important benefits of these features is the ability to switch to the reserve component in case of failure of the active IO or memory component – without extra cost. In case of additional demand, you can easily enable reserve IO, networking and memory capacity by purchasing licensing keys.Secure, dedicated Java processorsLibra Model 600 Series Servers offer optional dedicated Intel-based MCP Java processors that are inside the MCP operating environment. These dedicated processors are available for Libra Models 680, 690, 585, 595, 580, 590 servers. These high-end Libra servers deliver unmatched security and availability, making them ideal platforms for Java applications. This new capability – plus the JBoss Application Server – enable you to add new Java applications to your IT infrastructure with minimal impact on your existing workloads.Server consolidationMany of the Server Consolidation options we offer can help make it easier to consolidate ClearPath MCP, Windows and Linux based servers as partitions in a ClearPath Plus Libra server. Business ContinuityChoose from several different Business Continuity options that provide end-to-end, holistic approaches to technology, implementation and services. 100 percent code and data compatibilityClearPath MCP clients enjoy 100 percent code and data compatibility – now and into the future – from our laptop mainframe to our most powerful Libra Model 680 and Libra Model 690 Series. This gives you the agility to deploy the Libra models that best fit your needs. And it gives you tremendous scalability – without expensive code and data migration.Extensive system accessEnd users can access MCP applications via the Web and their PDA, mobile and wireless devices.Extensive software portfolioClearPath MCP-based systems offer a comprehensive array of software solutions with true mainframe attributes.Autonomic Computing systems managementThe Unisys Sentinel software suite delivers multiple solutions for simplified systems management of both MCP and Windows partitions. Scale up and outClearPath MCP-based systems offer major horizontal and vertical scalability.Dynamic partitioningClearPath MCP-based systems feature a dynamic partitioning capability that lets you reconfigure physical components in real time. This provides unprecedented physical agility in the areas of workload balancing, planned downtime and software upgrades.
