The enterprise clients of today need a reliable and robust environment that separates and isolates workloads for security-sensitive, mission-critical applications and that provides an environment where system failures are avoided and/or mitigated whenever possible—therefore maintaining a high level of availability.
In response to the challenge, Unisys developed a new technology known as Secure Partitioning (s-Par®), which works together with Intel® Xeon® virtualization capabilities. s-Par interfaces directly to the platform hardware and provides the ability for multiple operating system instances to run simultaneously on the platform, while isolating the environments from each other.
Unisys s-Par is architected, designed, and developed to deliver a predictable, secure, mission-critical, scalable, distributed operating environment on an Intel Xeon x64 (multi-core) platform. Predictability attributes, similar to those achieved by equivalent, legacy mainframe and UNIX systems, are achieved by operating environment isolation.
This document provides an overview of the Unisys s-Par environment. It profiles the challenge for IT managers of today, and provides an overview of the s-Par architecture.
