Air Canada Extends Agreement for Unisys Cloud-Based Cargo Systems

One of the earliest adopters of Unisys cloud services, Air Canada is now collaborating with Unisys to develop innovations such as cargo mobility to benefit the wider cargo community

BLUE BELL, Pa., May 10, 2016 Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced that Air Canada Cargo – Canada's largest provider of air cargo services as measured by cargo capacity – has extended its agreement for the cloud-based Unisys Logistics Management System (LMS) to manage its domestic and international cargo services, as well as Unisys' Cargo Portal Services and In-transit Service Manager.

A long-time Unisys client and active member of the Unisys Cargo User Group (UCUG), Air Canada was one of the earliest adopters of Unisys cloud services in 1997. The carrier conducted a full evaluation of options before choosing the speed and flexibility of Unisys' LMS solution. The cloud-based delivery model includes monthly updates and faster speed-to-market than traditional software operation.

"In addition to the benefits of our established relationships and valued presence in the Unisys cargo community, we particularly value the open and modern interfaces of LMS that allow third party providers to 'plug and play' with our enterprise system," said Lise-Marie Turpin, vice president, Air Canada Cargo. "We are committed to using technology to deliver world-class cargo services and innovation, and having a partner with wide domain and technology expertise on whom we can rely to deliver our business and help us grow through differentiated services is critical."

As part of the extension, Unisys and Air Canada Cargo are also collaborating to bring new initiatives to LMS designed to create commercial and operational business benefits for the carrier.

"We are delighted to renew our agreements with Air Canada, an active member of our community which is helping to shape industry developments and enhancements to LMS," said Christopher Shawdon, vice president, Logistics Solutions for Unisys. "We also welcome the further innovation we have planned together such as the mobilization of cargo technology away from a personal computer and keyboard."

Unisys LMS is used by leading airlines worldwide to manage their air cargo business. The cloud-based delivery model allows airlines to reduce costs compared to running in-house systems and enables enhancements to be deployed each month and made immediately available to clients. The Unisys cloud model also helps drive community collaboration in software development among airline clients and enables airlines to respond quickly to constantly changing air cargo industry requirements.

Unisys Cargo Portal Services (CPS) is the world's leading multi-carrier air cargo booking portal, providing secure, free and real-time access to allocations, bookings, shipment status and more. Unisys' In-transit Service Manager is a time-based supply chain event management system that helps carriers meet commitments by alerting issues before they become problems and by providing reports in line with the Cargo iQ (formerly Cargo 2000) quality standard for the air cargo industry.

Unisys has more than 45 years of experience providing advanced, critical IT solutions to the travel and transportation industry. More than 20 percent of the world's air cargo shipments are processed on Unisys solutions. Unisys cargo solutions are used by many of the world's leading carriers, which collaborate via the UCUG. Unisys and UCUG members have worked with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for more than 20 years on initiatives such as e-Freight, Cargo iQ and XML messaging.
