Secure Image Management Solution (SIMS) is a digital evidence management solution that facilitates the collation, distribution, management and processing of images and multimedia through use of a centralised system in an enterprise environment. SIMS captures and aggregates all types of imagery – stills, video, audio, multimedia and disk images whilst maintaining the integrity of stored materials. SIMS receives feed in multiple channels (forensic imagery, ad-hoc imagery, Taser-cam / wearable video, CCTV/IP camera, in-car video, interview/observation rooms, and public imagery) to a single back-end IT system that enables ready access to all evidence without having to make requests from multiple sources. The secure storage of the images and multimedia content occurs on a dedicated purpose-built information archive, in effect providing a Digital Evidence Vault or Digital Evidence Management Store (DEMS). SIMS also handles video files and makes copies available to users in a streamable format.
SIMS can not only be used as a stand-alone solution but also be integrated to existing case management systems and devices such as Body Worn Video which are used by Police agencies, delivering a fully integrated image management solution. SIMS can also optionally provide facial recognition capabilities through use of Cognitec DBScan – the world’s leading facial recognition engine.
SIMS is uniquely set-up to encourage community participation. When an agency needs help from the public it can leverage the PICS (Public Image Capture System) capability of SIMS – this feature allows members of the general public to securely share information and files directly with the agencies. PICS preserves the confidentiality of the reported information and citizens can remain anonymous if they wish. All reports and images are quarantined before they are evaluated by a designated investigator or PICS reviewer and the information is passed onto investigators for further evaluation and investigation.
