In order to improve IT systems it is essential to know their current state and desired state. But what do we mean by ‘state’ and how can we describe it?
Unisys has devised a simple means of modelling the state of an IT system in the two dimensions of most concern to CIOs and other senior management: agility and resilience. In order to calibrate the model, we use integration as a measure of agility and automation as a measure of resilience.
Unisys created the Appraisal Service to work with clients to identify the current and desired states of their IT systems. The service comprises a workshop, which takes less than one day, with a follow-up report and presentation, describing the results of the workshop and recommendations for further action. No special tools are required – the aim is to encourage a free and open discussion.
The White Paper explains the integration/automation model and the Appraisal Service. The approach is being used with ClearPath systems, both on their own and within a wider environment in which they are used. The paper presents the results of a number of Appraisals and discusses the common themes that have arisen.
