Unisys chosen to compete for task orders under two contracts, each worth up to $1 billion, for consulting and IT infrastructure services
BLUE BELL, Pa., October 20, 2010 – The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) awarded two multiple award indefinite delivery-indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contracts to Unisys (NYSE: UIS) to compete for task orders under the CDC Information Management Services (CIMS) contract. The contracts include a broad range of services to help CDC promote and protect U.S. public health by efficiently managing agency data centers, supporting communications with the public, implementing internal best practices and other activities.
The CIMS contract is divided into three functional areas under which different contractors will compete for task orders. Under its two contracts, Unisys can compete for work in two of those areas: management consultant services and information technology (IT) infrastructure services.
The contract for management consulting services was awarded to 18 companies, and the contract for IT infrastructure services was awarded to 19 companies. Each contract is capped at $1 billion in total task order awards over 10 years. Only six companies won both of these contracts.
Under the contract for management consultant services, Unisys will compete to provide services related to project management, financial management, communications and other essential tasks. Under the contract for IT infrastructure services, Unisys will compete for task orders related to activities such as data center management, end user support, contact and call center support, cloud computing and applications hosting.
CIMS will provide a full range of IT services and management consulting services to support CDC’s mission, including agency priorities such as responding to health crises, addressing the country’s leading causes of death such as smoking and obesity; and supporting state and local government health agencies. CDC will allow state and local health agencies to use CIMS to obtain services as well.
Unisys has more than a decade of experience supporting CDC’s public health mission. Currently, Unisys manages the CDC’s Mid-Tier Data Center in Atlanta, providing services such as hardware and application monitoring for 75 of CDC’s mission critical applications, service desk support, data center hosting, application support, and security compliance support. Unisys is also providing management consulting services in the areas of financial management, business process reengineering, communication and messaging, call center, project management, and application development support to numerous CDC organizations.
“CIMS represents a critical vehicle to help CDC achieve its vital mission of monitoring and protecting the health of U.S. citizens,” said Ted Davies, president of Unisys Federal Systems. “With this contract, Unisys will have the opportunity to build on our years of experience with CDC and to provide an even broader array of services to support the agency’s mission in the future.”
Any statements contained in this release that are not historical facts are forward-looking statements as defined in the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. All forward-looking statements rely on assumptions and are subject to various risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from expectations. In particular, under IDIQ contracts there is no guarantee that any contract recipient will be awarded any task order. Further, because agreements with government agencies are terminable before the end of their terms and are subject to the availability of appropriated funds, there is no guarantee that any task orders will be awarded by the government or that any awarded task orders will continue for their full term. Additional discussion of factors that could affect Unisys future results is contained in periodic filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
