Number of project submissions increased by more than 70 percent over previous year
Bangalore, February 27, 2014: Unisys India today announced the winners of Cloud 20/20 Version 5.0, the latest installment of one of India’s largest online technical project contests. The contest recognizes innovative thinking by students across India in addressing the technical challenges of cloud computing.
Following several rigorous rounds of evaluation, including technical project submissions, telephone interviews, and remote project demonstrations via video conference, project ‘Remote Smartphone Application for Controlling Laptop and Desktop Devices’ submitted by Vineet Kumar and Akash Singh from Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, won the first prize. The project ‘iPay’ submitted by Anil Gadiyar H. J., Prajwal G. Pawar, Pruthvi N. Shetty, and Sankalp Asthik G. K. from Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bangalore, took the second prize. The third prize was awarded to the project ‘Cloud Connect,’ submitted by M. Thamizharasan and Rizwan Mohammed Hayat from Pondicherry Engineering College, Pondicherry.
This year, the Unisys Cloud 20/20 contest included an additional competition for students who are part of the Unisys Innovation Labs (UIL) program. These students were given an opportunity to create projects using Unisys technologies – the ClearPath ePortal mobile application development capability and the Business Information Server (BIS) and Agile Business (AB) Suite rapid application development environments. Following several rigorous rounds of evaluation, the project ‘Medi Assistance’ submitted by Sridhar G. R., Anushree V., Apoorva Bharadhwaj H., and Swathi P. S., from Jyothy Institute of Technology, Bangalore, was selected as the winner.
Unisys India will offer the finalist teams employment opportunities within the company, subject to their eligibility and availability within the organization.
Kumar Prabhas, Managing Director, Unisys India, said, “In today’s competitive global market, it is critical for Indian students to develop independent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Initiatives such as Cloud 20/20 and the Unisys Innovation Labs program provide engineering students with a platform to develop these and other critical skills by putting theory into practice to develop real-world solutions, enhancing their competitiveness and employability.”
Nearly 1,400 teams from colleges across India participated in Cloud 20/20 Version 5.0. Unisys received approximately 400 project submissions, up more than 70 percent from the prior year’s competition.
Working in teams of four, supported by project guides from Unisys and their institute, the contestant’s showcased live cloud computing projects based on topics including automation, application development, security, big data, consumerization of IT, and more.
Bob Supnik, Vice President, Engineering and Supply Chain, Unisys, said, “Having been part of the Cloud 20/20 judging panel since the inception of the contest, I’ve had the unique opportunity to witness not only the growth in the quality and range of projects, but also the passion and commitment of students in addressing complex business and community-related issues. Their ideas continue to inspire and challenge us to push the boundaries of what’s possible.”
