Blue Bell, PA December 2, 2004 – Officials from The Guinness Book of World Records recently confirmed the highest number of players ever recorded on a single game server at the DreamHack Winter 2004 Festival in Jönköping, Sweden. DreamHack –the world's largest LAN (Local Area Network) party and game festival – hosted 1,160 video game players on a Unisys ES7000/540 server.
The Unisys ES7000/540 server, equipped with 32 Intel Xeon 2.2 GHz processors and 32GB internal memory running Microsoft's Windows Datacenter, supported gamers as they competed in "CounterStrike" – a popular online, team-based game simulating counter-terrorist warfare.
The DreamHack Winter 2004 festival included more than 5,272 paying attendees and 5,852 computers on the DreamHack LAN.
