AENA and Unisys Work Together to Overhaul Airport Security System in Spain

Program designed to strengthen security at domestic and international airports

MADRID, Spain, November 14, 2007 – The Spanish airport management authority, AENA, has selected Ikusi and Unisys Spain, a subsidiary of Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) to overhaul the security for its domestic and international airports. Under the contract, Unisys is developing a standard integrated security system across all Spanish airports, including access control systems and closed circuit TV (CCTV) networks.

Unisys is running a pilot program at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport, which is being gradually implemented in all other Spanish airports. The standard security system, which has been developed in response to increased security challenges facing the transportation industry, enables AENA to improve its security capabilities, such as video surveillance, biometric analysis and data sharing between airports. The open system, which will be implemented as standard across the authority, also improves coordination between the security and IT departments to achieve a highly secure environment and reduce operating costs.

Unisys is serving as developer and integrator for the project, in collaboration with Ikusi, AENA’s supplier of access control systems in Spanish airports.

“Unisys work with AENA underlines our heritage and expertise in providing secure business solutions in the transportation industry,” said François Fleutiaux, country general manager, Unisys Spain. “At Unisys, we are aware of the growing need for airports to improve security both for passengers and for their own staff. Together with Ikusi, we are providing Spanish airports with the solutions to adapt their facilities to industry requirements and further secure their business operations.”

Unisys has a significant foothold in the airport security arena. In August, 2002, Unisys began work for the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), building the IT infrastructure for the nation’s 440+ commercial airports. The infrastructure, and subsequent high-speed connectivity among the airports, is designed to enable the security measures TSA implemented following Sept. 11, 2001.

Unisys serves more than 600 airports worldwide. Unisys manages Brussels Airport’s Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE), the technology infrastructure that provides a single interface into passenger and baggage information throughout the airport. Unisys is the prime contractor for Beijing and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airports and provides solutions such as baggage reconciliation systems used in every Australian international airport.
