Unisys Gathers "Best of the Best" in Security Advisory Board to Guide Clients, Provide Insights to Market

Recognized experts in business and government security to research, advise on challenges and business benefits; identity management is first project

BLUE BELL, Pa., October 23, 2003 – Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS), today announced that it has established the Unisys Security Advisory Board as an objective source of insight into emerging security issues and best practices for Unisys clients and the market at large.

The panel comprises nationally recognized experts in security from business and government: General Michael P. C. Carns, William P. Crowell, Jim Flyzik, Norman D. Inkster, Dr. Lawrence A. Ponemon, John C. Reece and Thomas L. Sheer.  Unisys selected the board members for their collective expertise in a full range of security disciplines, including policy creation and compliance, risk management, IT infrastructure and network security, physical security, airport and border security, and security requirements in specific vertical markets.

"Our clients and the commercial and government communities at large recognize that security is a fundamental business issue pervading all levels of their organizations," said Janet B. Wallace, president, Unisys Global Infrastructure Services and chairwoman of the board.  "Increasingly, they are asking us to provide not just solutions that address current risks, but also advance warning of emerging threats and advice on how they can identify, mitigate and manage these critical risks to their business.  The Unisys Security Advisory Board will provide a means for our clients to see 'beyond the horizon' and gain security insights that can become key factors in their long-range business strategy."

The board's first research initiative will focus on identity management, which both Unisys market research and industry analyst research indicate is one of the top three security issues clients face.  Identity management involves providing effective means for businesses' and governments' clients, employees and partners to have secure, consistent access to business resources, including networks, business applications and organizational information, through management of digital identities, such as passwords, digital certificates, and biometric identifiers.

In the board's view, identity management is too often treated solely as a technology issue focused on systems administration and password management.  Approached from a broader perspective, it can become a powerful business strategy that reduces risk and transforms business processes by creating trusted communities, leading to significant competitive advantage.

Unisys expects the results of the board's initial research to be published in the fourth quarter of 2003.  The publication - the first in a series on identity management -will offer strategies to help organizations understand the broad scope of identity management, assess its benefits and prioritize the most effective way to implement it for business advantage.

The board is considering a range of additional topics for future projects, including safe commerce, security as a component of total quality management, security implications of outsourcing, and identity theft, among others.

The results of the research will not only be published, but will also form the basis for board members' speaking engagements and other client-focused activities.

The board complements the expertise Unisys demonstrates in its integrated portfolio of strategic consulting, architecture and planning, design, implementation and management services and solutions that enable clients to address security requirements at all levels of their business.
