McGrath was appointed president and chief executive officer of Unisys Corporation and a member of the Board of Directors effective January 1, 2005. Joe held the position of president and chief operating officer since April 2004, responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the company.
Joe was previously corporate executive vice president and president, Enterprise Transformation Services, where he was responsible for developing, selling and delivering industry solutions and services based on in-depth knowledge of customer and market requirements.
Joe joined Unisys in January 1999 as senior vice president, major accounts sales, and chief marketing officer, with responsibility for strategic market planning on a global basis and management of the major accounts sales organization in North America and Europe. He led the seven-month initiative that resulted in Unisys realignment, announced in November 1999, to enhance customer service and capitalize on business opportunities more effectively. He was appointed corporate executive vice president and president, Global industries, in January 2000. He was named to lead the company's Enterprise Transformation Services organization in 2002.
Prior to joining Unisys, Joe was vice president and general manager of Xerox Production Color Systems. He led this start-up color laser printer business to a more than 70% market share in its first year and a position as one of Xerox’s fastest growing businesses. Prior to that, he was vice president of strategy and marketing for Xerox Production Systems Group. Joe is widely credited with the strategy for this system division, focusing on modular product architecture, extensive alliances, industry focus and solutions. His other positions at Xerox included vice president, North America Systems Sales, and vice president Marketing, Integrated Systems Operations. Before joining Xerox, Joe was a vice president and service director of Gartner Group, the worldwide information technology consulting firm.
Joe currently serves on the Board of Directors for McCormick & Company, Inc., and on the Professional Advisory Board for the Rutgers University Center for Global Change and Governance. Additionally, he is a member of The Business Roundtable, an association of CEOs from leading U.S. companies; the Technology CEO Council, IT industry's public policy advocacy organization; and the G100, a private group of chairmen and CEOs of the world’s most significant companies.
